Link, Zelda, and Ganon get the western treatment in 'A Fistful of Rupees'

It wasn't too long ago that stills from The Legend of Zelda anime began popping up online and while there is still no release date available for that particular project, it appears that Zelda fans will have something to tide them over until the anime makes it to the web.

That 'something else' comes from The GameStation, which decided to produce a mash-up of Ocarina of Time with the time-honored western pulp classic The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. While the production values look good, part of me is still agog that they are actually make a 3-part series of this (which debuts on August 7th!)

It's not that A Fistful of Rupees looks bad, by any means, but I think it would be just as effective if it remained a spoof trailer like The Breakfast Club/Legend of Zelda mash-up that appeared some years back. That was cute, sure, and hey - funny! - Link is in a public school library, which is a place where you normally wouldn't expect to find him... but the creators knew that joke wouldn't carry much longer than 4 or 5 minutes, which is why they kept it short.

A Fistful of Rupees, on the other hand, looks to be quite the expansive affair so hopefully it will be able to carry the joke and premise for its entire run. Based on the amount of dutch angles used in the trailer, however, I'm a bit wary... and nauseous.

Those interested can catch the first part of A Fistful of Rupees on The GameStation's Youtube channel on Tuesday, August 7th. I know that I'll be watching, and probably enjoying the hell out of it despite my reservations.
