Gain some Hyrule street cred with The Ocarina of Rhyme hip hop album

That old dude wasn't kidding - it really is dangerous to go alone

Hip hop remixes of videogame music are by no means new, but hip hop mashups of game music are still a bit of a rarity on the internet.

While some might feel the urge to eulogize Nintendo Power's passing in a nostalgic rap, or others choose to commemorate Firefly with a hip hop tribute album, only a select few feel the desire to take a game soundtrack and give it the full-on Girl Talk treatment.

One of the best examples of this niche genre comes from the appropriately titled The Ocarina of Rhyme that hit the internet back in 2009. Released by Team Teamwork, The Ocarina of Rhyme takes some of the most memorable tracks from the venerable soundtrack to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and mashes them up with songs by Jay Z, Common, and Dr. Dre.

The end result is often more hit than miss, and all of the arrangements are pretty well done so it's difficult not to like at least a few songs from the album.

Especially when they sound like this...

The best part about The Ocarina of Rhyme is that all eleven tracks can be downloaded for free.

Unfortunately, Team Teamwork has not revisited The Legend of Zelda for hip hop mashups after 2009, but there's always hope that they'll create something new for a project like The Legend of Zelda anime.
