Object of geek desire: Game of Thrones collectible figures (with gigantic heads!)

HBO's Game of Thrones has been a ratings juggernaut since its first season, and last night's Emmys confirmed that fans and critics alike are lining up to sip from George R.R. Martin's heady brew of sex, violence, and orgiastic eating.

Yet with the show currently between seasons (Season 3's premiere date is not until March 31, 2013), fans may well be feeling a bit of Westeros withdrawal... especially since there is no release date yet for the DVDs or Blu-Rays of Season 2.

At this point, fans of the show have three options.  The first choice is to dive into the ponderous and expansive world of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire books and become virtual hermits for half a year as they slog through chapter after chapter of intrigue, incest, and politicking.

The second choice is to pre-order these adorable, Pop! Game of Thrones vinyl for their desks, dining room hutches, and dashboards to help tide them over until Season 3 rolls out to their TVs.

Our release date is coming

Featuring the same distended, blocky head and $10 price tag as the rest of the Pop! figure line, these adorable and affordable little Westerosians will make many a Throny's Christmas as they're set to ship in December 2012.

Featuring Tyrion Lanister, The Hound (Sandor Clegane), a White Walker, Khal Drogo, Daenerys Targaryen, and Eddard Stark, the series is based on the Season One cast... apparently in their mid-season states of vitality.  I was rather hoping for a Prince Joffrey figure to make its way into this collection (my dog needs a new chew toy), but I suppose I'll have to wait for the second series of Pop! figures for that to happen.

If reading or ordering these Pop! figures doesn't appeal, the third and final option to help fans of the series is to watch as much Seminole football as possible in the hopes of hearing another marching band rendition of the Game of Thrones theme song:
