PlayStation once again gets a confusing and terrifying commercial

...all courtesy of our friends in Japan, naturally.

The commercial in question doesn't involve the creepy Scottish alien girl above, but given the nature of the 0:16 minute commercial it seemed somehow wrong to ruin the surprise with a screenshot before you had a chance to watch the video in its entirety.

Now that your coffee is sputtered and your chair befouled, here's the explanation for the commercial. Rather than reveal anything about the upcoming PlayStation Orbis (PS Fourbis) during E3 or the Tokyo Game Show, Sony decided to unveil a new model of the PlayStation 3 instead - launching just in time for the holiday season.

The PS3 Super Slim is a powerful little device that shows exactly how slick Sony's console still is after being on the market for close to six years. It comes in either a 250GB or 500GB model, and boasts some nice metallic accents to the body breaking up the monochrome black motif that has dominated the console's design since 2006.

Oh, it also apparently features zombies...

....that's right, zombies. Sony, one of the most powerful names in console entertainment, just released a video with a straight-out-of-2001 jump scare.  The build up to the zombie is pretty classic: the commercial is minimalist with generic, upbeat music meant to lure you in to a false sense of security and then... BAM... zombies.

In Sony's defense (if such marketing can be defended) the zombie scare is meant to promote Resident Evil 6 / Biohazard 6 so the tie-in makes sense, but I'd be pretty upset if a character from my PS3 Super Slim ever actually tried to grab me like this.

Although, if it did... I just might be persuaded to play Dead or Alive 5 a little more rigorously.
