Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn's trailer is incredible

Square Enix officially pulled the plug on Final Fantasy XIV last night, putting the game on a temporary hiatus until it can relaunch the ill-fated MMO as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

While many players were sad to see the game's original run end, they were rewarded with an exquisite cinematic cutscene that simultaneously explains the in-game reboot of the world and serves as the opening trailer for A Realm Reborn.

The magnificent cinematic shows the three nations of Eorzea on the business end of a rather painful-looking assault by The Garlean Empire (complete with FFVI-style magitek!) and a flying fireball of fury.  The unbridled violence and warfare taking place on screen is set to abridged arraignment of the gorgeous vocal theme Answers which creates a rather pleasing artistic atmosphere.

Everything in the battle looks to be going in Eorzea's favor, until Bahamut appears and shit gets real.  This all leads up to one of the most epic log out screens in MMO history... but stop reading already!  Open this up in a new tab, crank the video up to a bandwith-annihilating 1080p, and bask in the awesome:

Cynics will argue that Final Fantasy XIV has always had impressive trailers and cinematics and that this isn't anything to get excited about. Unfortunately, this is a fair point... but if the above trailer is any indication of what A Realm Reborn has to offer to players then the game may finally live up to its potential.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn should be available in the first quarter of 2013, with a PS3 and PC version launching simultaneously.
