This is happening: Game of Thrones is getting its own beer

Fans of the A Song of Ice and Fire books and the HBO megahit Game of Thrones both know that George R.R. Martin is a man who enjoys his food and drink. Now these fans will be able to share a beer with Martin in the spring, or rather - they can drink a beer *inspired* by George R.R. Martin this spring.

The New York-based Brewery Ommegang announced an official partnership between themselves and the HBO series Game of Thrones. The partnership commissioned  four unique Westeros-inspired beers which will be available by bottle and tap to celebrate the rampant success of the show.

First up on the list of beers is "Iron Throne Blonde Ale", which will be available in March of 2013 - just in time for the premiere of Game of Thrones's third season.

Following Iron Throne Blonde Ale is another unnamed beer in the fall (Stark Stout! Winter is coming...) and two mystery beers to follow in subsequent seasons.

While I'm not much in demand as a beer name copywriter, I would humbly suggest that Brewery Ommegang avoid the temptation to launch a Targaryen Tawny Porter.  "Blood and fire" make for some pretty ominous house words, but aren't high among most beer aficionado's preferred tastes.
