Downton Abbey gets the boy band treatment

It's really difficult to pinpoint how and why Downton Abbey crossed the line from traditional PBS period piece to cult geek favorite, but the show has definitely won a strong following thanks to its sharp writing and exceptional acting (the catchy theme song - better in chiptune -  doesn't hurt either).

As American viewers recover from the end of the third season, many are wondering what's in store for the future of the show's beloved characters. Many except for comedian Richard Sandling that is, because Sandling knows exactly what's ahead for the Crawleys: a stint as a British boy band.

Bringing his exceptional editing skills - and mountains of free time - to bear, Sandling created a masterpiece of a mash-up that has the cast of Downton Abbey perform One Direction's What Makes You Beautiful by taking clips of dialog from the show and setting them to the backing music of the song.

The end result is positively flabbergasting:

Sure, Sandling took a few liberties with the lyrics (swapping out 'overwhelmed' for Lord Grantham's 'Flabbergasted') but the end result is worth the few changes.  It's not like he's tweaking Shakespeare, after all.

Whether you're a fan of Downton Abbey or not, you owe it to yourselves to watch the video above if for no other reason than to see what the world would be like if Professor McGonagall was in a boy band.
