The Wizard of Oz is about to get... the Game of Thrones treatment?

It was only a matter of time before someone tried to hop onto the coattails of HBO's Game of Thrones, and it looks like the series is about to receive its first unabashed immitator (Vikings doesn't count!)

Just as The Tutors inspired The Borgias or Spartacus inspired Camelot, Game of Thrones has inspired Warner Horizon to consider picking up Red Brick Road: a gritty rendition of The Wizard of Oz told in the style of Game of Thrones.

Take a moment to let that sink in: Dorothy and The Wicked Witch of the West standing in for houses Stark and Lannister.  We're not in Westeros any more, are we?

They're totally going to get it on later.

The Hollywood Reporter has a few details on what we can expect from Red Brick Road - assuming that it's picked up in the first place.

The series will be "filled with politics, intrigue and violence" (curiously absent: nudity, incest) and its creator is no less a mind than artist Rob Prior, who is known in the world of graphic novels for his work at Marvel, D.C., Todd McFarlane, Kevin Eastman and Image Comics.  In terms of films and television, Prior has also contributed to the art of Deep Space 9, Terminator, Spawn, and the Lady Death movie which I totally forgot ever happened.

Misgivings about the concept aside, Prior certainly has a distinct creative style so Red Brick Road might actually be worth watching... but it has a long way to go to overcome Dark Side of the Rainbow as the most badass thing to happen to Oz since that rumor of the hanging Munchkin was debunked.
