Object of geek desire - The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition statue set

After soaking up the 3D release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey earlier this year, Lord of the Rings fans have been left with the all-too-familiar task of deciding which edition of the movie they'd eventually add to their collections.

The initial Blu-ray release was tempting for its quick availability, but it lacked the extended features and deleted scenes that diehard fans cherish and overanalyze.  These fans saw the theatrical release in all of its  two hour and 49 minute glory and wanted more.

For these fans, Amazon's coming to the rescue - and it's bringing a nifty collectible statue along for the ride.

Enter (deep breath) "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition with Amazon Exclusive Bilbo/Gollum Statue" which is available for pre-order and will ship on November 5, 2013.

Similar to the super collectable extended DVD editions of The Lord of the Rings movies, this set comes in an attractive box with a statue that positive demands to be displayed on your mantlepiece alongside your replica-under-glass of The One Ring.

Along with the statue, you'll also receive two "appendices" (making of) discs, and the extended version of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey which adds 13 minutes of scenes to bring the total run time of the film up to an impressive, attention span straining three hours and two minutes.

The price for all of this awesome?  Currently, the 3D version of the Blu-ray set is retailing for $69.99 while the non-3D Blu-ray set (with statue!) is selling for $59.99 - both come with free shipping because Amazon is awesome like that.

For those who think the statue is silly and just want to grab the four-disc movie set, you can do so for $39.99 - but it's well worth shelling out the extra cash on the statute if only for the resale value.
