Party like it's 1995 - there's a Mystery Science Theater 3000 Turkey Day marathon this year

If you're a fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000, this humble post will probably make your week, if not your November - series creator Joel Hodgson has announced that he's hosting an MST3K Turkey Day marathon online, over at MST3KTurkeyDay.com.

The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thanksgiving marathon was a right of passage for MST-ies who were alive and sentient in the 1990s.  For 24 glorious hours, Comedy Central dedicated all of its programming slots to running episodes of MST3k... much to the chagrin of those who were looking for Dr. Katz reruns.

For those whippersnappers unfamiliar with MST3K, it's sort of like Wizard People, Dear Readers or RiffTrax - which is hardly surprising, as the three hecklers for RiffTrax are all MST3K alumns.

To summarize: a down-on-his-luck palooka from the midwest gets blasted into outerspace, builds two sarcastic robot sidekicks out of spare parts lying around his satellite, and teams up with them to ridicule old b-movies that time and Hollywood forgot.

It's the comedy standard for everyone who's ever riffed on movies with friends, and is one of the greatest things to come out of Minnesota since... well, ever.

The 25th anniversary MST3K Turkey Day marathon kicks off at 9am PDT (12pm EST) on Thursday.  There's no word on how many episodes Hodgson & co. will run for this totally awesome online event, but Joel himself will host the festivities.

Better yet, he's taking requests - so if there's an episode that you'd really like to see, hop on that Twitter machine and tell Joel Hodgson to run it.
